Preach It Sister Melissa!

Melissa_etheridge_live2 Melissa Etheridge, like many others is none too pleased with the passing of Prop 8 in California. She had planned on marrying her long time partner, Tammy Lynn back in October...but unfortunately she no longer has that right. So, if she's going to be treated like she's not a "real" citizen of the US she wants to know: why should she have to pay taxes? Shiz, we want to know too! If you're not going to be treated like an equal citizen, why pay like one? We're totally behind that way of thinking, preach it sister Melissa.

Melissa had a little time to put her thoughts to words, and here's a little of what she had to say:

"Okay. So Prop 8 passed. Alright, I get it. 51% of you think that I am a second class citizen. Alright then. So my wife, uh I mean, roommate? Girlfriend? Special lady friend? You are gonna have to help me here because I am not sure what to call her now. Anyways, she and I are not allowed the same right under the state constitution as any other citizen. Okay, so I am taking that to mean I do not have to pay my state taxes because I am not a full citizen. I mean that would just be wrong, to make someone pay taxes and not give them the same rights, sounds sort of like that taxation without representation thing from the history books.

Okay, cool I don't mean to get too personal here but there is a lot I can do with the extra half a million dollars that I will be keeping instead of handing it over to the state of California. Oh, and I am sure Ellen will be a little excited to keep her bazillion bucks that she pays in taxes too. Wow, come to think of it, there are quite a few of us fortunate gay folks that will be having some extra cash this year. What recession? We're gay!

Oh and too bad California, I know you were looking forward to the revenue from all of those extra marriages. I guess you will have to find some other way to get out of the budget trouble you are in.

When did it become okay to legislate morality? I try to envision someone reading that legislation "eliminates the right" and then clicking yes. What goes through their mind? Was it the frightening commercial where the little girl comes home and says, "Hi mom, we learned about gays in class today" and then the mother gets that awful worried look and the scary music plays? Do they not know anyone who is gay? If they do, can they look them in the face and say "I believe you do not deserve the same rights as me"? Do they think that their children will never encounter a gay person? Do they think they will never have to explain the 20% of us who are gay and living and working side by side with all the citizens of California?

I got news for them, someday your child is going to come home and ask you what a gay person is. Gay people are born everyday. You will never legislate that away."

On a Side Note...

I have to say, I am very disappointed and sad to hear that California's Prop 8 passed with 51% of the vote. As many of you know, I am the straight half of JockBoyMusic...and I support gay rights. Everyone should have the same rights and privileges regardless of sexual orientation. Equality is a RIGHT, not a privilege. That is all.

Madge reacts to Obama Win

I've cried like a little girl with joy since last night. So amazing...so happy. No words, just joy that Obama won. Here's Madonna's reaction to the news, and it's awesome.

Be heard! VOTE TODAY

Gavotersticker The polls in Georgia and the Eastern Time Zone are closing at 7 pm, but some of you out there still have time to make yourselves be heard! We both voted, and we hope that you have too! As I've said over and over again, I don't care who you vote for as long as you vote!

RIP

Madelyn Dunham, Barack Obama's beloved maternal grandmother has died. She was 86-years old. Out thoughts and prayers are with the Obama family. So sad...and only a day before the election.

This is why I Love Pink

Pink voiced her opinion on Sara Palin in a new interview this week that made me smile. Here's what miss thing had to say:

"If I were writing a letter to Sarah Palin it would be a lot of whys and hows. Who are you? Do you know? Why do you hate animals? Please point out Iraq on a map …"

"This woman hates women. She is not a feminist. She is not the woman that's going to come behind Hillary Clinton and do anything that Hillary Clinton would've been capable of … I can't imagine overturning Roe vs. Wade. She's not of this time. The woman terrifies me."

Damn Pink, tell us what you REALLY think! What do YOU think of Mrs. Palin? Saint or Devil?

Way To Go California!

The California Supreme Court overturned the ban on Gay Marriage yesterday, May 15, 2008. I for one am so excited, and hope that this brings about new awareness that homosexuals should not be treated as second class citizens. Speaking as a straight woman, who is married with a 4 year old daughter, I can whole heartedly say I hope that I see that equality between my gay brothers and sisters and myself happen in my lifetime. I love you all.

PS: ELLEN'S GETTING MARRIED! This totally made me tear up this morning. So wonderful! Congrats Ellen and Portia!!!!!

Don't Stop Fighting the Good Fight Against Sally Kern

I know it's been a couple of weeks now, and things have died down so far as the story about Sally Kern (the gay bashing Oklahoma State Legislator) is concerned. Things die down and people kind of forget what they were upset over and what they were fighting for. I'm sure her people are telling her "be strong, this will all blow over soon." and it's in the process of blowing over right this moment. Right now.

Make a difference people, fight the power. Keep writing her, keep sending her emails, keep calling and leaving her messages. Let her know that gays are not monsters, that gays are not "worse than terrorists" gays are not a "cancer" in this society. Tell her how you feel about what she's said and what she continues to say. I know I have continued emailing her each day, because I love and support the gay community. Please do not make this easy on her, do not simply "let this blow over". Make a difference. I've said it before and I'll say it again, DO SOMETHING WORTH SOMETHING.

Here's a link to her latest debacle: (A debate with a homosexual pastor)

Here's the original speech she gave about what she believes to be the atrocity which is homosexuality:

And now here's her contact info in case you forgot...do the right thing. Stand up and fight against injustice and prejudice.

Take A Stand Against Sally Kern.

Kern20with20flagsMusic blog, smusic blog. At this moment in particular I don't care. Right now I want to spread the word like wildfire about Sally Kern. Sally Kern is an Oklahoma State Legislator who apparently does not understand that equality of all man is part of what she is supposed to be speaking up for, and also that her personal views about religion and sexuality have no place in government. Government is not a religious entity. Government does not and should not care what religion you worship or who you have sex with...whether it be the opposite sex or the same sex. Sally Kern certainly has no place in the government of the United States of America if she can not uphold the guidelines set forth by our forefathers. I am a proud fag hag. I love my gays, and I will not sit idly by while Sally Kern spreads hatred like the plague. Stop the Idiocracy now. I'm calling you out Sally Kern, and I hope that others do to.

Write her a letter, give her a call. Here's her contact info folks, get to dialing and typing. xoxo ~ C
