New Mimi!
Mariah Carey's new video for "I'll Be Loving You Long Time"
Mariah Carey's new video for "I'll Be Loving You Long Time"
Jewel is the only "pop" (and I use that term very loosely) artist of late that I was actually very happy to hear was going to put out a country record. Anytime you jump that very distinctive anything but country to country line it's a huge career risk. Jewel knows any genre hopping can bite in you in the ass from experience, let us not forget her not so well received (but I thought enjoyable) "0304" dance album. So...an attempt at country, for her, took balls.
"Perfectly Clear" is no "Pieces Of You" or "This Way", but in compassion to the other records she has put out in the last decade, "Perfectly Clear" is far and away the direction she should be heading into. Her delicate high voice sounds right at home with a pretty country melody, while her husky lower register is amazing when paired with a steel guitar. Her folky indie style just transitioned beautifully into the country market, and I am sure she will be a hit with country radio.
A highlight of "Perfectly Clear" comes in a cover "2 Become 1" which was originally recorded for her dance album "0304". That was actually one of my favorite songs off of "0304" and I always wondered why she never released it as a single, now I can see why. The country version she did of the song is EVEN BETTER than the original. The steel guitars and acoustics add so much to the mood of the song, making it perfectly executed this time around.
Another track favorite of mine was "Loved By You" (A Cowboy Waltz) that sounded very old west as Jewel showed off both her high and low vocal register as she slid effortlessly through the chorus "I don't wanna be loved by anybody but you". She then closed the song with a beautiful yodeling harmony, the first yodeling she's ever recorded.
Avril Lavigne's fan based "Avril Band Aids" are on a mission: To put Avril's video for "Girlfriend" in the #1 spot on www.youtube.com ...not just #1 for the day, but of ALL TIME. The current #1 is the "History Of Dance" clip, which I think we've all seen a ga-zillion times.
Here's the cheating part though...Avrilphiles have sent out emails to fans to get them to watch Avril's video as many times possible AND set up automated YouTube view-boosting sites. The pages automatically reloads Avril's video every 15 seconds, to rack up as many hits as possible, and a letter from the site advises fans to keep a browser window open all day with the page in it.
First of all, Avril's career has been ova' for a while so this is kind of pathetic, and secondly cheating to be number one is lame. Ugh.
Heidi Montag wants to be a singer...bad. So if at first, or second, or third you don't succeed...just subject the public to more of your god-awful music. Heidi's new single Fashion leaked exclusively to US Weekly today. Here is the ridiculousness. Enjoy!

Since the Cartier Love bracelet was introduced more than 30 years ago, it has become one of the most coveted jewelry designs in the world and the ultimate symbol of love. Over the past two years, Cartier donated more than $2.24 million to sixteen global charities from the sales of its Lovecharity bracelet, and due to the enormous success, this year Cartier will celebrate Loveday with a new Lovecharity bracelet. The company aims to exceed last year's donations as a number of new music ambassadors join the endeavor. "Cartier is thrilled to have the support of such inspirational celebrities that have joined together to raise awareness for important charitable causes," said Frédéric de Narp, President and CEO of Cartier North America. "This year Cartier is launching a new Lovecharity bracelet to commemorate the arts as a part of our philanthropic mission."
The new Lovecharity bracelet features interlocking miniature Love bracelets in 18K white gold and 18K rose gold; both bracelets are graced with the word Love and set into a knotted silk cord available in various colors, with each cord designating support of a unique cause. The Lovecharity bracelet is available for $995 at Cartier boutiques nationwide with $200 per bracelet benefiting its corresponding charity. On Loveday, June 19th, 10% of all sales from the entire Love collection will benefit the partnered organizations. The Loveday celebration includes Grammy Award winning artist and Lovecharity ambassador Rihanna alongside Frédéric de Narp hosting the lighting of the landmark Empire State building in festive Cartier red while guest DJs spin in Cartier boutiques in major U.S. cities including Atlanta, Bal Harbour, Beverly Hills, Chicago, New York, and San Francisco.
In addition, all ambassadors who participated in the Lovecharity initiative since the inception of the program in 2006 will continue their involvement, with their bracelets available for purchase (complete list available upon request). The Cartier Lovecharity bracelets, as well as additional new Love designs, will be available in Cartier's 34 boutiques in June across the U.S. and Canada.
