Madonna's new album, Hard Candy, is currently #8 on Amazon's top selling albums and it's not even out yet! How crazy is that? I checked the top 100 to see if any of the other divas we've been writing about of late were on the list, Mariah Carey's E=MC2
is at #54, and Janet's Discipline
...well...she's no where to be found. (And I'm not surprised why?) Something that was of interest to me was the number of Beatles records in the top 100. Perhaps American Idol choosing to use the Beatles' catalog on the show had something to do with that? Interesting thought...what are your thoughts?
Here's the top 10 for your review:
1. Celtic Thunder: Celtic Thunder
2. Across The Universe [Deluxe Edition] Original Movie Soundtrack
3. Jack Johnson: Sleep Through The Static
4. Robert Plant and Allison Krauss: Raising Sand
5. Once Original Movie Soundtrack
6. Sara Bareilles: Little Voice
7. Counting Crows: Saturday Nights and Sunday Mornings
8. Madonna: Hard Candy
9. Amy Winehouse: Back to Black
10. Danity Kane: Welcome To The Dollhouse
The Amazon.com top 100 list is updated daily, so it will be interesting to see if Madonna can hit the #1 spot. (She went from #18 yesterday to #8 today!!) We'll keep you posted.
I was really excited about Janet's Discipline. I read fantastic reviews about it and thought "It's finally happening, Janet's coming back." The last album Ms. Jackson released that I
liked LOVED was 1997's The Velvet Rope. I read comparisons of "Discipline" to "Velvet Rope" and was so excited that I couldn't WAIT to get my hands on this album.
Not since Garbage's "Beautiful Garbage" have I been this let down. Damn. Janet, why you gotta keep doing this to me? The first 4 music tracks are solid. They're different than the generic pop she's been releasing for the last 9 years now. She's showing us that Ms. Janet still has some edge, Janet is still sexual, Janet can still be in your face while coaxing you gently with her light and airy vocals. "I'm heavy like a first day period" from "Feedback"... definitely one of my favorite lyrics of this year.
"Rock With U", Janet's second single from "Discipline" marks the last original sounding song on the album. Until this point she had made me dance, she had made me sing along. Janet showed an electro-pop edge I never thought she had in her...and I was LOVING the record. Then the slow jams started, and the cheesy spoken word "interludes" became more frequent. (Janet, those stopped being interesting back when you released "Janet" back in 1993. Please stop it. Please. I am risking running my car off the road trying to skip past them to get to the music...so for my safety as well as for your many other fans QUIT IT!) From "2nite" through the ending track "Curtains" I did not hear another original sounding or good song. It was all generic slow-jam pop/r&b. So very disappointing...
Do yourselves a favor. Do not waste your time or your money. I've already done it for you...Just download these tracks Feedback; LUV
; Rollercoaster
; and Rock With U
; and you'll have the best of the album.
Divine Miss C's Rating:
Janet Jackson has canceled her upcoming appearance on Saturday Night Live because she has the flu. Janet has reportedly been battling this for the past couple of days and I am sure her whirlwind promotional tour for her new album Discipline hasn't made it any easier for her to get rid of it. Janet did go to the hospital Tuesday evening but was never admitted at Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles. Hopefully Ms. Jackson will make a full recovery check out her website and while your there why not send her a get well wish!

Because my dearies, the Divine Miss C loves you all...here's the new Janet video "Rock With U". Enjoy!
I know DivineMissC let you in on Janet's performance this morning on Good Morning America and today is the big release of her newest album Discipline. If you missed her performance this morning you can also check her out on MTV's TRL this afternoon at 3 pm/EST. So why do I love her so much? Well first,
I wasn't pulled in by Janet until her 1997 release of The Velvet Rope much like many people emotional attachments are made to music and this was the album that I lived my life to that year - going to college, coming out, moving away from home and making lifelong relationship with friends (DivineMissC being one). Not only did that album make a major impact on my life but it also made me a huge fan of everything Janet... Miss Jackson if your nasty, and what she had to offer. I have followed her over the course of the past couple of years with her 2001 release All for You
, 2004's Damita Jo
and 2006's 20 Y.O.
all had great tracks but so far Janet hasn't given me a full album of what she gave me in 1997. So here's hoping this album is one of her best, and we will let you know so watch for our Album review of Discipline
.
Janet Jackson performed on Good Morning America this morning. Here's the clip, in case you missed it.
Are you ready for it? One of my favorite artist of all time Janet Jackson will be taking over New York on February 26th to promote her new album Discipline. If you live in the New York area this is one your not going to want to miss!
