Could it be true? Could everyone's favorite techno-pop Swede group from the 90's, Ace of Base, really be reuniting? From what I've read they're planning a European and Russian tour...no U.S. in sight. They're also touring as a trio, looks like Linn (the blond) is on the outs or so I've read. Hmmm...interesting. Wonder what that's all about. Hell, whatever...as long as I'm getting some new Ace of Base I'm a happy girl.
A couple years back I was watching one of my favorite VH1 programs ever called "Bands Reunited", the premise of the show is simple: Find members of bands that have long since passed, and see if they'll do a reunion show for their fans. I started watching the show when I heard about them reuniting "Berlin"...and got addicted from there on in.
One of their targets was none other than "New Kids On The Block". I was EXTREMELY interested in this episode since none of the members are all that successful these days. Back in 1999 I know that Jordan Knight had a minor hit on his self titled record he released. Joey McIntyre also had a minor hit record along with a little Broadway and television success since then too. Donnie Wahlberg (Marky-Mark's older brother) has been in a couple of tv apperances and movies, like the Saw series where he was tortured maybe for his sins of being in a boyband. Otherwise, I haven't heard anything out of Danny or Jonathan. You would think they've been HOPING for an opportunity like this to come a knockin'. Nope. No. VH1 came, Jordan and Jonathan VERY RELUCTANTLY signed on, and the buck stopped with Joey who basically said "Hell to-tha-no". They all made it clear that a New Kids on the Block reunion was not on their agenda now or ever.
So...now I read that they're planning a reunion tour. They released their promo picture today and intend on making their first public announcement on 4/4/08 on the Today Show. Wha?! Them boys sure aren't kids anymore...but then again, the legions of screaming little girls that LOVED them in the 80's (admittedly, I was one of them. I totally had all 5 NKOTB Action Figures, and sheets, and curtains, and all their records. Okay, I still have a couple of their records.) are now all grown up as well, and I'm curious just how this whole reunion tour thing is gonna work out. It's going to be interesting to watch it unfold I'm sure. I wonder if "You Got It (The Right Stuff)" is on their set list. I freaking love that song.
Yes that's right ladies and gents. George Michael is planning to tour the U.S. for the first time in SEVENTEEN YEARS. Oh my lord...I have "Freedom '90" playing on repeat as I type.
George Michael is calling this a "rounding off" of his career's first phase. "I don't want to do anything on this scale again," he says. "No more stadiums. I'd like to be the Tony Bennett for my generation."
"It's the end of a certain era, and I'm not sure how much I really want to be a part of what's next. So, it's a kind of a way of saying thank you to everybody before I move on," he says.
I am so there. For now, some 90's eye candy "Freedom '90" for your viewing pleasure.
Here's the Billboard top 10 for this day in music back in '98:
1. Titanic Soundtrack
2. Celine Dion: Let's Talk About Love
3. Silkk The Shocker: Charge It 2 Da Game
4. Savage Garden: Savage Garden
5. Pearl Jam: Yield
6. Backstreet Boys: Backstreet Boys
7. Usher: My Way
8. Spice Girls: Spice World
9. The Wedding Singer Soundtrack
10. Matchbox 20: Yourself or Someone Like You
I used to own 6 out of these 10. Crazy, this just made me feel OLD!
I just have to say to Benji...seeing that Titanic was #1 on this day made me smile like crazy. You drug me to that damn movie theater 13 times to see that 4 HOUR LONG movie. What good times my friend, it's already been a decade. Wow...xoxo!
