February 2008

In honor of my 10 year reunion coming up, Flashback....this day in music 1998

Here's the Billboard top 10 for this day in music back in '98:

1. Titanic Soundtrack

2. Celine Dion: Let's Talk About Love

3. Silkk The Shocker: Charge It 2 Da Game

4. Savage Garden: Savage Garden

5. Pearl Jam: Yield

6. Backstreet Boys: Backstreet Boys

7. Usher: My Way

8. Spice Girls: Spice World

9. The Wedding Singer Soundtrack

10. Matchbox 20: Yourself or Someone Like You

I used to own 6 out of these 10. Crazy, this just made me feel OLD!

I just have to say to Benji...seeing that Titanic was #1 on this day made me smile like crazy. You drug me to that damn movie theater 13 times to see that 4 HOUR LONG movie. What good times my friend, it's already been a decade. Wow...xoxo!

Amy got an acquittal!

Img_4A little good news for our favorite bad girl Amy Winehouse. She was acquitted from the conspiracy to pervert the course of justice case involving her hubby Blake Civil-Feder who is presently incarcerated and has been since November. Amy was arrested "by appointment" back in December, and voluntarily took part in the police questioning. A spokesman for Winehouse said: “Amy is pleased to be discounted from the investigation and thanks the police for their professionalism in their dealings with her.”

Old Blakey boy was in a London Court Friday facing the same charges...and was Amy standing by her man? No-no-no! Not because she was in court facing those pesky Norwegian drug charges, but because she is on her way to Paris today to perform at a party for fashion designer Louis Vuitton.

Fielder-Civil pleaded not guilty and will remain in lock down at least until his next hearing on April 25th.

Who says American Idol doesn't care?

Ryan Seacrest and Paula Abdul: T.V. Personalities; counseling professionals. Watch how awesome they are with the clearly distraught Alaina Whitaker after she found out she was getting the ole heave-ho from American Idol this week. Who says that American Idol don't care? Word!

American Idol says "So Long" to 4 more

Last night on American Idol the field was narrowed from 20 to 16 contestants. Here’s who was sent home:

* Jason Yeager

* Alexandria Lushington

* Alaina Whitaker

* Robbie Carrico

The American Idol performers take to the stage again next week: the men on Tuesday and the women on Wednesday again on FOX 8/7c.

Mel C to release 4th solo album

0a1b01c0f93046e7ab649906be32c8b3Melanie Chisholm doesn't need the Spice Girls to make music. Miss thing is releasing her 4th solo album "This Time", on her own imprint Red Girl, due out on April 8th. She's also set to do a Canadian national tour which will begin in May.

She's more than just the "sporty" spice as well, she's a savvy business woman! She decided to take control of her music and her career. "When I was released from my contract with Virgin, I had options, I could attempt to sign with another major. I could go with an independent or start my own label. And having experience with a major label, it was nice to be able to do the exact opposite and own the copyright to my songs, I was very fortunate with the Spice Girls; financially, I was able to set up my own label and finance my own record."

Mel C describes "This Time" as a more "Mature Pop" album than what she's released before. The first single, "Carolyna," tells the story of a young runaway, but it's the only issue-oriented lyric on the album.

"I think most of the songs on this album are more about relationships and personal feelings and fears and experiences," she says, including being a child of divorce ("Your Mistake") and love conquering all ("The Moment You Believe").

Maybe this explains her "crazy"

The LAPD are "looking into" the claims made by Britney Spears' mother dearest, that Brit-Brit was drugged! She claims that Sam Lutfi was DRUGGING Britney and trying to control her and her life. Wha?!?! This was the apparent basis for the retraining order that was issued against him earlier this month.

Britney is still under the court ordered consevatorship of her father, Jamie, and there hasn't been any weirdness out of her in a good couple of weeks aside from her fake (and poor) British accent.

Hey, as long as she's doing better...that's all we care about. Get well soon Britney!

Oh, Snap! Paula's planning a come back

Paula_abdul1_300_400Miss Paula is hard at work in the studio on a "new" record. Apparently it's set to include "new interpretations" of 5 or 6 of her old hits along with 5 new recordings (can anyone say Cyndi Lauper syndrome?) Apparently Will.I.Am is set to be one of the producers. This scheme might actually work girl.

Just let me know how you're gonna "re-interpret" M.C. Skat Cat, because I HAVE to KNOW.

Look we all know how I feel about Paula, so work it out hon. You're Forever my girl miss thing. Work it out. I leave you, my loyal readers with this...my favorite Paula Abdul song ever. I am so a child of the 90's, I swear.

A Paulaism to make your day a little brighter

"I just want to squish you, squeeze your head off, and dangle you from my rear view mirror." This is what she said to 17 year old David Archuleta on American Idol last night. So...what are they drinking out of those Coke cups again?

Hey Paula, you make me smile. You know that?

Michael Jackson facing Neverland Foreclosure

281x211Oh Lord. Michael Jackson is finally losing his Neverland ranch. Neverland Valley Ranch in California will be foreclosed and sold on March 19 unless the pop star pays a balance of nearly $25 million, property records showed on Tuesday.

The onetime "King of Pop" has owned the 2,800-acre ranch in foothills above the California coast since 1988, naming it after the J.M. Barrie Peter Pan stories. Jacko, famously outfitted the property with a private zoo and amusement park and covered it with statues of Peter Pan characters.

20_jacko_lgApparently everything must go aside from personal effects. So you could own a piece of Neverland people! It could be a toaster oven, or a coffee maker, or hell...a statue of Peter flippin' Pan. Even the Merry-go-round is going to the highest bidder. Good luck with that Michael. Maybe you should'a saved some of that money you spent to get rid of that pesky thing that was on your face...you know, your nose...Even the King of Pop's gotta pay his bills. Oops! Somebody forgot to hire an accountant!
