Britney Spears - Blackout [Album Review]
With her 5th studio effort Blackout you could easily forget the shambles that Britney Spears calls her personal life or the VMA debacle that had everyone wondering “Where is Britney? Bitch.” Although her personal life has been taken through the ringer and back again, she proves that whatever she touches musically still turns to gold at the bat of her pretty eyelashes. Professionally, this is arguably Britney’s best effort to date. Her first full length effort released since In The Zone
back in November of 2003 proves that Britney still knows how to pump out the club friendly beats. True, none of the lyrics are her own, however I can imagine no one could say “Oh my god, that Britney’s shameless” and sound as wry or as witty as Ms. Spears on the track “Piece of Me”.
Heavily dance influenced and full of her signature breathy vocals, this album is club ready and had me dancing throughout. Highlights of the album for me were the dreamy yet pulsating “Heaven on Earth”, the promiscuous and hot “Gimme More” and the obvious reference into her personal life “Freak Show”. The album is also interlaced with playful jabs at ex-husband Kevin Federline. “Toy Soldier” proclaims “This time I need a soldier, a really bad ass soldier. That know how to take, take care of me. I'm so damn glad that's over.” While more obvious references come from the track “Why should I be sad?” as she lamented “Lavish homes and fancy cars, even got the drop Ferrari, filled up our garage for you. Made your choice with all the teams; People, Limos, Magazines, Tell us who’d I do that for? Who?”
Britney's Blackout is a great one…cover to cover. A must buy for dance/pop fans. On our scale from One to Five, with One being the lowest and Five the highest I give Blackout
the following rating.
